Swans Nest

The Swans Nest is made from a section of reclaimed English oak once forming a part of the Swan Inn. The Swan Inn is loated in the market town of Crewkene in Somerset. The building has origins back to 1791 when it was used as a coaching house. Over the years it had numerous owners & several near misses including a large fire.

The Swan Inn as it was previously known came under new ownership with complete restoration & new name The Crooked Swan. The original timbers removed from the building were bought by a reclamation yard. It was there that we chanced across these timbers.

Crewkerne is located some 9 miles south west of Yoevil in South Somerset close to the Dorset border. The earliest written record of the town was in 899 when Alfred the great willed it to his youngest son Ethelweard.

The Swans Nest is full of history. Due to the age of this timber the seasoning lines have given this piece a truly unique surface with a dark oak colouring to match.  The hand cut notches on the beam & overall shape made it clear that the beam had been used as a mainstay timber within the house.

This beam has been carefully brought back to life in such a way to showcase its’ original features.  Fitted with three feature reclaimed metal straps & reclaimed metal pins.

The Swans Nest is a piece full of heritage & can hold 10 bottles of your favourite wine. This unique wine rack survives as a testament to beauty of reclaimed timbers.
